What Family Chooses

The troubles of marriage are like waves,

They come and go

And ebb and flow,

Without any concern for the days.

Push through these days,

Hand in hand as you walk,

Know when to speak

And when not to talk.

The troubles of parenting are like knives,

You must be careful

Watch how they’re handled,

Cause you're dealing with young lives.

Hold these little ones closely,

Guard them with all that you can,

Don’t give up

Don’t lose sight

They will one day rule this land.

The troubles of sacrifice are many,

Though you might have other’s disagree,

Put on their merry faces and giggle,

But those are the troubles you can’t see.

But you must put on a face,

Hold your head up high,

Face a new day and learn to embrace,

The ups and downs of time.

With every unit there’re issues,

Cries, shouting, and tissues.

But as long as you hug,

And know who you love,

It’s worth all the spit and the dribble.

Fight for your loved ones,

Cry if you must,

Throw a tantrum,

Or calmly explain why you're lost.

Find your family through fire and stone,

Don’t worry what your blood says,

Or why you think others should atone.

Thicker than water but not those by the covenant,

Find friendships in family

No matter who or how far,

And love them with all that you have and are.
